STUDENT PAPER CONTESTS

The Organising Committee decided not to run a general best paper contest across the totality of papers but to offer encouragement to student authors and presenters by giving three awards, each carrying a monetary value of $A750. These were for best student technical paper, best student poster and best student presentation. An international sub-committee, independent of any of the contending students, was formed at the conference and judged the papers that were entered. The results, which underlined strongly the international flavour of the conference, were as follows.

Best Student Technical Paper: Metrics for SAR-GMTI Based on Eigen-Decomposition of the Sample Covariance Matrix by Ishuwa Sikaneta, Defence R&D Canada - Ottawa, Canada.

Best Student Poster: Subsurface Sounding of Mars: Multi-pulse Detection of Water-related Interfaces by Massimo Sciotti, University of Rome "La Sapienza", Italy

Best Student Presentation: Digital Monopulse Receivers for Phase Modulated Signals by Gema Ferreiro Collar, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain.
